Gone Home

In this blog I am going to discuss some major plot points from The Fullbright Company’s Gone Home. As such, I strongly suggest you play Gone Home for yourself before reading on. It is well worth your time and I think everyone should have the chance to try Gone Home without any preconceptions or foreknowledge as to what they are getting themselves into. You can pick the game up for yourself here: http://bit.ly/1nqqJOa

Gone Home profoundly impacted the way I look at interactive media. The emotions I felt while playing Gone Home will stick with me for as long as I live.

Extra Life 2014 Schedule of Events

Hey folks. ExtraLife 2014 is rapidly approaching and this year I have decided to put together a rough outline of the activities I will be partaking in. I will begin streaming at 9am EDT on October 25, 2014 and I will be continuously streaming until 9am EDT on October 26, 2014 (Twitch link here). I have listed the games I plan to be playing throughout the day as well as some contests and giveaways that I will be running. Please note that the schedule below is only an outline and I reserve the right to change it on the fly if need be. In addition to the prizes listed below I will be giving out SWTOR Pet Codes throughout the day so be sure to hang out in the chat room if you’d like a cute little pet to add to your collection. And finally, the pièce de résistance, the grand prize, the item you are all waiting for: one lucky contributor will receive a copy of the Star Wars the Old Republic Encyclopedia signed by members of the Bioware Austin team. All you need to do for a chance to win this very special collector’s item is donate at 5 dollars to the ExtraLife charity via this link. All donations will help support the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital in Albany, NY. Each donation you make of at least $5 will give you one entry into a raffle drawing that will take place at the end on the stream. Also, each increment of $5 donated beyond the threshold will give you one additional entry. Want four chances to win the Encyclopedia? Just donate twenty dollars and you’re all set. Remember, you only need one shot to win and it’s for a great cause so get those donations rolling and may the force be with you!

Be Kind to One Another

Occasionally I sit down to write a blog and all I can muster is a blank stare at the computer screen; not because I don’t know what to write or can’t figure out where to start, but because I know exactly what I want to say but have no idea if it’s worth revealing. I doubt myself; “what if what I have to say is primitive and I’m just too dumb to realize it?” It’s more comfortable to say nothing and maintain the illusion of relevance than to risk exposing myself as inferior. This hesitation has prevented me from writing about Gone Home for almost a year now. I have started writing and stopped, opened and closed my blogs folder over and over and I can’t bring myself to put my feelings on paper. I would love to describe one of the most profound interactive experiences that I have ever had, but I’m immobilized by the thought of discussing it for fear of my experience being deemed unworthy. Improving Conquests Part 2 – Size Does Matter

Conquest Changes Part 2 – Size Does Matter
Last week, I wrote about the core mechanics of Planetary Conquests and how creating a system where players felt obligated to play in a way they did not want to was counterproductive. But there is another plane on which Planetary Conquests run, arguably one far more important and harder to control than simple values or objectives: the human element. Conquests naturally create allies and adversaries. It’s one player’s guild versus the rest of the world and, despite how daunting that task seems, it can be completed by anyone doing almost anything. The one caveat: you need to be in a big enough guild to have a chance.
