I disagree with your “should be training ground for.” I did 3-4 four nights/week of raiding in TBC but have outgrown it; I don’t want to do operations or anything to train or progress me towards operations. IMO, MMOs are struggling a bit with customers who are not the traditional hardcore PvP or Raiding endgame.
There is a market for simple, non-trinity content.
