As a tank, I’m awfully attached to my tanking gear and I like being special – you can’t just respec to do my job, you have to put in the work. Still, just because I like how things are now doesn’t mean it should always stay that way.
I have heard some people advocate the elimination of tanking gear altogether and the alteration of tanking bonuses to enable any of the trinity roles to be filled by someone in heals/DPS gear, or as it would be then, gear. How do you feel about this idea and what benefits or detriments do you think it would bring to the game?
I don’t like the idea. Adding mitigation to nontanking stats has been tried in other mmos before and it seems to never work out.
I don’t think alacrity is as bad as you think it is. It has a super low diminishing return amount, but that’s a good thing since you don’t need to stack a ton of it. 2 or 3 enhancements (depending on if your implants/ear have it) is enough, and the reduced cast times for abilities like tracer missile, unload, snipe, series of shots, etc really adds up to a lot more DPS. It’s hard to see this change just by looking at your stats, but if you look at a parse for someone that has a couple power/alacrity enhancements VS someone that has all power/surge it’s apparent that their rotation puts out more DPS over time.
